Canvas, tempera, charcoal pencil · 60 × 75 cm · Russia

This painting cleverly conceals the true beauty of the rose blooms just beyond the canvas's edge, teasingly positioned above. What's revealed to us are the robust stems and piercing thorns, the steadfast companions of these exquisite flowers. Two fallen petals offer a glimpse into the color and size of the hidden buds. It's a subtle reminder that the most intriguing and beautiful aspects often reside at the pinnacle: on the upper levels, platforms, or steps. As you ascend, expect a few pricks from the thorns, a tangible testament to the stunning allure awaiting you at the summit.
