Herve Dupuis
/Born 1950/
Drawing was an anchor for the silent and timid child he once was, offering him a crucial first sense of confidence and opening up a new perspective: that of painting. This youthful gift proved to be decisive. His studies at the Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts School) fully blossomed him, nurturing a deep passion and confirming a true artistic calling.
Although his professional career unfolded outside the studio, it was never a mere parenthesis. On the contrary, this experience was complementary to his initial training, allowing him to satisfy a keen curiosity and a constant need to learn. Time and experience became valuable allies, helping him to express what had long lain dormant within him.
Born in Dakar in 1950, Hervé Dupuis studied at the Beaux-Arts in Angers and then Nantes (1967–1972), specializing in interior design during the last three years. From 1974 to 2014, his professional life remained close to the artistic world, primarily in interior decoration, furniture design, and product marketing. In 2013, he returned to his brushes.
Visually, his paintings stand at the crossroads of graphic design and painting. Perspective is absent, and volume effects are rare. His work seeks to dematerialize the existing world to transfigure it, reconstructing abstract, expressive images, often punctuated by symbols.
His work is thought out and structured; the result is clear and controlled. Harmony and balance engage with the available space—a space that transcends the physical boundaries of the canvas. Through the contrast of shapes and colors, he injects rhythm and dynamism into his themes. The colored lines and surfaces float like musical notes. He loves it when the surface comes alive, moving and dancing, free from any attachment. Balance is a true obsession, inseparable from his creative process.
The paintings of Hervé Dupuis are imbued with the breath of life
