Meral Baskaya

Meral Baskaya is a contemporary abstract artist whose work explores the poetic tension between form, color, and emotion. She completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Balıkesir University, where she developed a distinct artistic language grounded in abstraction and the expressive possibilities of oil on canvas. Throughout her practice, Baskaya merges geometry with intuitive gesture, creating visual fields that feel both meticulously constructed and subtly unsettled. Her compositions often unfold through layers of color, deformation, and fragmented structures, revealing a dynamic interplay between stability and collapse, clarity and ambiguity.

At the heart of her artistic inquiry lies a deep fascination with the relationship between inner emotion, memory, and spatial perception. By deconstructing forms and reimagining their boundaries, she invites viewers into a contemplative realm—one where the visible dissolves into the subconscious, and where personal reflection becomes part of the viewing experience. For Baskaya, painting is not merely a medium but a method of navigating the complexities of existence. “Art, for me, is a way to navigate the chaos of being, to search for the hidden order within disorder—the unseen behind the visible,” she states. Each work thus becomes an act of searching, a dialogue between time, memory, and the silent terrain of the mind.

Through her abstract language, Meral Baskaya encourages the viewer to slow down, to sense rather than simply see, and to find within her canvases a fragment of their own inner world. When a spark of recognition resonates in the viewer, she believes, the fundamental purpose of art is fulfilled.
