In childhood, it feels like if you stare at the sprouts long enough, you'll actually see them grow. Because you want time to stretch out when you're waiting, you try to speed things up, even in the slow-paced world of childhood. A child's day seems to last forever, filled with a multitude of events — so many that it appears like there will always be an abundance of time in your life, more than enough for everything.
