Ivan KorshunovAt the behest of the Pike, 2022 ·
(from the “Various fairy tales” series)
Oil on canvas · 150 × 150 cm · Russia

This triptych is all about the magic found in Russian folk tales and the lasting hope for good things to happen, like a wish coming true. and the change will be for the better, almost as if "at the behest of the Pike."

In these stories, Ryaba the hen lays a special egg - not just a simple one, but a golden egg. Even when things are hard, people figure out clever ways, like making porridge out of an axe. The main idea of these pictures is about a sleepy Russian village hoping for something magical to happen.
