Daniel Mangin
/Born 1957/
Daniel Mangin, born in Amiens in 1957, is a French painter whose artistic journey began with a lifelong passion for drawing and painting. Although he had always been drawn to art, it was in 1985 that he fully committed to his craft. He studied for two years at the Beaux-Arts workshops in Paris under the guidance of Masurel, immersing himself in the techniques of the masters through museum visits and extensive reading. His curiosity extended beyond classical influences to the work of his contemporaries, always seeking to understand the choices behind artistic expression.
Mangin’s preferred medium is oil on canvas, which he values for its depth and versatility—its impasto, transparency, and slow drying time allow him to refine and intensify his compositions. His subjects range from classical to contemporary, often infused with social commentary, humor, or political edge. He embraces complete creative freedom, exploring themes that emerge from his inner world. In recent years, he has gravitated toward abstraction, aiming to transcend anecdotal representation, though he still appreciates the expressive power of the nude.
His career spans decades and continents. From exhibiting in Parisian salons and galleries in the early 1990s to international shows in Tokyo, Brussels, New York, and London, Mangin has consistently garnered recognition. Notably, he won the First Prize for Modern Figurative Art in Brussels (1996) and was a finalist in the Aart's Masters Competition in New York (1997). His work has been featured in prestigious venues such as Arte Padova in Italy, the Athenaeum Gallery in Switzerland, and the Laura Gallery in Paris.
Mangin’s abstract works earned him the First Prize for Informal Abstract at the Small Format Triennale in Ferrara. He continued to exhibit across Europe and beyond, including shows in Abidjan, Tokyo, and Osaka. His presence expanded into digital platforms from 2021 to 2024, with online broadcasting through Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and TikTok, while maintaining a physical presence at the In Vino Veritas Gallery in Amiens.
Daniel Mangin’s art is a reflection of his evolving vision—rooted in tradition, yet unbound by it. His work invites viewers to engage with both the visible and the conceptual, offering a rich and layered experience of contemporary painting.
