I don't know if Russia is a major apple producer. Cezanne having painted those from Provence with warm colors, I could use the same subject for Russia with cool pastel colors, typical of the country's climate. These apples, grouped in the center of the canvas, unwittingly evoke Russia's isolation since 1917.
