Artist about this artwork
In this project, Alexandra Savko avoids any intention to provoke. The artist takes the viewer back to the magical realm of childhood, immersing them in a fairytale setting. The characters don costumes from the 17th century, and overall, the artist employs the fairytale stylistics reminiscent of Ivan Bilibin.
Yet, the artist invites even the most passive viewer to actively engage. Upon closer inspection of Savko's canvases, one notices the bewildered expressions on the faces of beloved characters and their gestures, which are either defensive or aggressive. Something incomprehensible, dynamic, and aggressive infiltrates the fairytale space, expressed through abstract forms.
